SRJC WARBALL AVENGER & FANTASY LARP + COSPLAY (WAFL+)

Non Profit WarBall Avenger & Fantasy LARP + Cosplay (WAFL+) combines superhero and ancient-warrior in role play with safety-centered gameplay and equipment.  The club provides uniforms, armor and helmets for LARP play.

Its main components are Star Wars' Light Saber plastic movie props instead of  LARP blunt steel swords that are heavy and dangerous.

Mounted on the rear of armor, the sabers  light up when they strike something. And its players offer social media visuals of  Spiderman, Iron Man, Wonder Woman, etc. in real life heroics, on occasion reaching (some of) the computer graphics seen in films.

And, importantly, we honor warriors, but not war, of the past with Vikings, Samurai, etc.  capturing those images in real life. We hope to educate while entertaining though not quite sure how right now. Perhaps side line mini-dramas.

Its intent is to revolutionize current LARP'S unorganized play and format.

WAFL+'s  rules and format virtually eliminate the comparative chaos of current day LARP, and, for that matter,  battles in real life and has a points based system to establish the victor.

It resides in a big tent, proudly including smaller people of either gender  participating in a activity of skill over size and strength, and, further, there are non contact positions available.

Students can participate in WarBall LARP or join off field fantasy cosplay activities, creating an inclusive experience for players and non-players alike.

Play is pending confirmation of the club’s safety guidelines.

WAFL+ prohibits unnecessary use of  force and actions associated with head and knee injuries.  In fact,  use of more force than necessary is prohibited as the prime directive.

Gameplay emphasizes:

• Controlled participant interaction based on safety rules from another sport with 100 plus years of validation
• Clearly defined rules that prohibit physical contact without a previous action. This reduces the speed  and thus the force of impacts and turns "tackles" into slow speed "take downs" from a standing or near standing position.
• Equipment "devices" that are targeted by the Light Sabers instead of a player’s body, and indicate to all viewing that player is now ineligible to continue
• A  general lack of violence and, separately, the  “kill or be killed” mindset that  is removed during training for a fun and festive event. Comedy and  jokester-ism is allowed and encouraged

WAFL+ is a non profit whose intent is to develop an inclusive contact activity for everyone (within reason}.

It was founded to supplant other contact sports such as 12 years and under football that has such unacceptable dangers it is facing extinction. SRJC and its students can proudly claim it was  foundational in making all this possible.  And, who wouldn't want to be Spiderman if you can get away with it?.
