START A CLUB AT SRJC
Starting or renewing a student club at SRJC requires three essential steps. Follow this process to establish your organization, secure an advisor, and gain official recognition.
1. GATHER MEMBERS &
SECURE A CLUB ADVISOR
Recruit at least three student members, including a President and a Treasurer. Secure a faculty or staff member to serve as your official club advisor. If your President cannot attend the mandatory club council meetings (see step 3), designate a Vice President or alternate delegate to represent your club.
2. SUBMIT THE
REQUIRED PAPERWORK
Complete the online Club Activation Form. All clubs must submit this form every semester to establish or maintain active status. You will provide internal contact details and public-facing club information. (Submissions may be edited for length and clarity.)
3. JOIN THE COLLEGE
CLUB COMMUNITY
Gain official recognition by attending either the Inter-Club Council (ICC) in Santa Rosa or the Petaluma Council (PC) in Petaluma. These councils consist of delegates (usually the club President or Vice President) from every active club. Ongoing attendance by your designated representative is mandatory to remain active.

- FINDING MEMBERS
Getting the word out and recruiting new members is an important part of any successful club. There are multiple ways in which you can help recruit new members to your club.
VERBAL OUTREACH
- Classroom Announcements: Ask instructors (from your classes or ones related to your club) for permission to make a brief announcement before or after class.
- Club Networking: Attend meetings of currently active clubs to introduce your organization and connect with other active students.
- Public Comments: Attend Student Government Assembly (SGA), Inter-Club Council (ICC), or Petaluma Council (PC) meetings to pitch your club during the public comment period.
- Advisor Assistance: If you have secured an SRJC staff person willing to be your club advisor, they may be able to help promote your club with their network.
DIGITAL OUTREACH
- Campus Platforms: Post your club intentions on the MySRJCApp.
- Social Media: You can create a dedicated "unofficial" account to help you momentum before you get officially active (please note it is important to indicate that the club is unofficial).
- FIND A CLUB ADVISOR
Each club is required to find an advisor who is a faculty or staff member at Santa Rosa JC. While finding an advisor can be an intimidating process, it is an important step that will greatly benefit the success of the club and enhance the experience of the club members. A good advisor can help the club complete the necessary paperwork, navigate the rules and processes at SRJC, provide guidance and most importantly help club members enjoy their experience. Below are some steps to help find a club advisor.
- Start looking for a Faculty or Classified Staff member that works in a department that aligns with your clubs interest. Faculty/Staff Lookup & Department Lookup.
- Reach out to current advisors to see if they are interested in advising a second club.
- Talk with your teachers about advising or if they know any faculty who may be interested in advising.
- Reach out to ICC Advisor Joshua Pinaula - jpinaula@santrosa.edu for help finding an advisor.
- TYPES OF CLUBS
Learn more about the different types of clubs:
FULLY ACTIVE CLUB
Fully Active Clubs have the greatest access to resources and opportunities. Fully Active Clubs can vote in ICC meetings and request funding from the ICC. To maintain this status, a club representative must attend weekly ICC meetings, and it is through this regular involvement that we find clubs stay active, connected, and supported.AD HOC CLUB
Ad Hoc Clubs are recognized by SRJC and can use campus facilities, but they do not have voting rights in ICC meetings and cannot request ICC Trust funding. Without regular engagement in ICC, most Ad Hoc Clubs struggle to sustain momentum and often become inactive within a semester. Clubs may change their status at any time during the semester. If your club choses to be an Ad Hoc, please indicate that on the Club Activation form.
