SRJC WARBALL AVENGER FOOTBALL (WAF)

In short, SRJC's WAF club  is a non profit initiative, whose mission is  for the  public benefit: ending a silent epidemic of brain trauma , gender equity, multicultural representation, and student learning through live performance.

Our web site (shown below) lists our Mission Statement and it is as if  WarBall was custom designed to reflect the values of our precious institution. Sheer coincidence, I can proudly say.

In essence we are a human progress club disguised as a football operation. It origin was  to invent a safer version of football, so as to end CTE brain trauma epidemic in youth football. (A law was passed in 2021 prohibiting football for ages 12 and under, but Newsome vetoed it, so the dangers are real)

Once our first goal was complete,  it morphed to become football 'for everybody' including women and older people,  and further evolved into a mixture that celebrates the cultures of east/west (safe MMA and football) for the betterment of humanity.

WAF is designed as a safer version of football that has eliminated high speed collisions but, amazingly, still has tackling and blocking. It is so innovative the football itself is a defensive safety device, softening or deflecting tackles on the ball carrier.

As to the game, non profit WAF is a mix of football, martial arts and safe weapons that target devices not the body. These devices harmlessly inhibit movement/vision impeding your ability to stop an opponent, allowing them to  progress the ball forward down the field.   If you miss the device only then can you tackle or body block, thereby eliminating high speed collisions.

Our safety features are such that smaller players of either gender can participate, and we have largely eliminated  dangerous blows to the head or knees. Most tackles are of the "throw down" variety, not a result of an impact. Our website describes how this happens, but, in short,  WAF has 5 times the action of NFL type football with much less violence and damage.

Our uniforms and helmets are close to SRJC colors, red and black, and we use super hero  costumes of DeadPool, Spiderman, Wonder Women and Iron Man.  You heard that right. We want our children to play our sport and save their brains, but  we adults need to establish it  first.  And,  admit it, you are still wanting to be Spidey or Wonder Woman if you can get away with it.

The website's video examples do not have these action figures, but they are 90% built at this time. and are awesome. I can't wait to see you in them doing heroic things in relative safety.
We hope all clubs related to entertainment will pitch in after we get through this semester as a test/intramural sport, and we can play Sonoma State or another JC next year. When that happens, SRJC can lay claim to be the first to reinvent tackle football, and all participating can make history and the world a better place.
